Mary Hains is an Associate in the firm’s New Jersey office. Ms. Hains focuses primarily on a variety of labor and employment claims, including race, age, gender, pregnancy, gender identity, national origin, disability discrimination, sexual harassment, FLSA overtime claims and collective actions, FMLA, harassment and retaliation claims. She also defends cases involving wrongful discharge, whistleblower, breach of fiduciary duty and contract disputes. Ms. Hains also understands the importance of pre-litigation risk management as she advises and assists business owners in the drafting of employee handbooks and policies, drafting employment agreements, employee hiring and terminations, and responding to employee complaints.
In the area of Professional Liability, Ms. Hains defends professionals against claims of malpractice, errors and omissions. These professionals include Lawyers, Architects and Engineers, Accountants, Insurance Agents/Brokers, Real Estate Agents/Brokers, Medical Professionals and Directors and Officers.
In the area of General Liability, Ms. Hains is experienced in defending a broad spectrum of casualty matters including commercial transportation, construction accidents, construction defects, premises liability and products liability matters.
During her time at Rutgers Law School, law school, Ms. Hains gained valuable and practical legal experience as an intern at a large university’s office of general counsel, a research fellow at a nonprofit organization, and as a Judicial Intern for the Honorable Stephen M. Petrillo, J.S.C in the Essex County Superior Court. She also represented victims of domestic violence in the New York City court system with the Courtroom Advocates Project.
After graduating law school, Ms. Hains served as a Judicial Law Clerk to the Honorable Philip J. Degnan of the Essex County Superior Court. Prior to joining Ward Law, she worked as a litigation attorney at a prominent regional defense firm.
Before deciding to become an attorney, Ms. Hains graduated from the University of Colorado Boulder with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 2015. Following college, she moved back to New Jersey and worked in the real estate field. In her spare time, Ms. Hains is an avid potter. She enjoys making art, traveling, and trying new restaurants.
