Fifth Region in New York Allowed to Begin Reopening
As discussed in previous posts, the state of New York has instituted a phased reopening that subdivides the state into 10 different regions. As of Wednesday, May 13th, four regions had been confirmed as meeting the governor’s benchmarks for beginning Phase 1 of reopening. This initial phase allows regions to resume manufacturing, construction and agricultural operations. It also allows retailers to reopen with limitations, but only with curbside pickup. The Finger Lakes, Southern Tier, Mohawk Valley, and North Country regions were announced to have met the state’s metrics. Late yesterday, the governor announced that the Central New York region joined the other four regions in being allowed to enter Phase 1. The Central New York region consists of Cayuga, Cortland, Madison, Onondaga and Oswego counties. All five of the regions will be allowed to begin their reopening starting Friday, May 15th.
